What Is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated solution derived from your own blood that harnesses your body’s natural healing and regenerative properties. During treatment, a small blood sample is drawn and processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which contain powerful growth factors and proteins. When injected into the skin or scalp, these growth factors stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture and tone, and promote tissue regeneration. PRP helps rejuvenate the face, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin quality, and enhancing overall results when combined with other aesthetic procedures.
Aging Skin
The skin color changes because of less underlying blood flow. The shape becomes collapsed and droopy as muscle and collagen decrease. The texture of the skin becomes less smooth. As a result, the person looks worn out, tired, or droopy. The lively, rosy hue seen in children of every skin color fades to a dull gray.
Treatment Pros & Cons
With so many ways to improve the face and with countless products and procedures available, why look for a better way?
Although there can be a place for a surgical facelift, such procedures are not necessarily a panacea or cure-all to the concerns of the aging face. Cosmetic surgery, when needed, can remove excess skin and make the person appear younger. However, a surgical facelift can actually contribute to a face collapse as the skin stretches tighter against the bone making the person look skeletonized.
With hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, the face is truly lifted away from the bone and youthful volume can be restored to a beautiful shape. With that in mind, HA fillers should not be used around specific areas near the eye. Furthermore, the injector must be careful to avoid creating a shape that looks foreign to the person’s face or even foreign to this planet. Also, HA fillers are not extremely effective for improving skin tone and texture.
Beverly Hills PRP Injections with Dermal Fillers Procedure
The first part of the PRP Injection with Dermal filler procedure utilizes HA fillers to begin sculpting specific areas of the face. The glycosaminoglycans (what an HA filler replaces) act like a sponge that holds water in the face providing a basic shape. This initial injection of HA is the precursor to the ultimate desired form. Next comes the polishing and refining step of the sculpting process which ultimately contributes to the appearance of a younger version of you.
Creating Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in Los Angeles
Within a matter of minutes, your practitioner can create autologous (which means from you to you) PRP and activate your stem cells for the PRP Injections with Dermal Filler procedure.
Heres how:
First: The practitioner draws a similar amount of blood required for a basic lab test.
Second: The practitioner places the blood into a centrifuge to spin the blood at a very rapid rate to separate the platelets from the other components of the blood.
Third: The platelets are activated by using one of two methods that are natural to your body. This activation of platelets is the final step in producing your very own platelet-rich plasma treatment. The best way to visualize PRP is to remember the yellow goo that surrounded the scab you had when you fell on your knee as a child. The thickening of the serum that forms the yellow material holds specific growth factors in place that call stem cells to the area and activates them to create new skin.
Stepanyan Surgical Arts: Specializing in Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Martin Stepanyan, MD, DMD, FAACS, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon with over 15 years of excellent education, extensive training, and over 25 years of successful practice in the field of Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery.
His background is particularly relevant in revision rhinoplasty, where surgeons often encounter scar tissue, altered anatomy, reduced cartilage reserves, and changes to the nasal blood supply that are absent in primary procedures.
One of the distinguishing features of Dr. Stepanyan’s training is his rare combination of medical and dental degrees paired with advanced education in oral and maxillofacial surgery. That dual perspective provides a detailed understanding of both facial aesthetics and the underlying structural anatomy that supports long-term function.
Dr. Stepanyan completed residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, then pursued a fellowship in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at Ohio State University under T. William Evans, MD, FACS, a respected cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon. He graduated number one in his class from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine with the highest honors (the number one in his class), grounding his approach in structural facial anatomy in a way most cosmetic-only surgeons do not train for.
Dr. Stepanyan has been board-certified since 2003, and now carries certification through 2033. He holds Fellow designations from both the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (FAACS), earned through documented expertise and peer recognition rather than membership alone.
Throughout his career, he has performed over 2,000 nasal surgeries in Los Angeles County, including primary, ethnic, functional, and revision cases.
His surgical experience extends beyond private practice through charitable craniofacial reconstructive missions to Ecuador, Armenia, and Russia, where he operated on complex pediatric and adult cases under significant resource constraints, the kind of work that sharpens the problem-solving revision rhinoplasty demands.
To better serve the diverse communities of Greater Los Angeles, such as Glendale, our practice offers care in English, Armenian, and Russian, allowing many patients to discuss highly personal concerns in the language they are most comfortable with.
Activating 8 Growth Factors in Glendale, CA
Platelet-rich plasma, PRP, is similar to HA fillers because it can be injected to sculpt the face. But here’s the best part: not only does the PRP cause an increase in volume, but the PRP contains at least 8 growth factors that will, over a long period of time, continually work like a rejuvenating agent.
By activating these growth factors, all three parts of the aging process improve:
- The skin color becomes a younger color because of new blood vessel formation.
- New collagen formations in the dermis to lift the face back to a more youthful shape.
- Because the growth factors are working to build a new dermis, the epidermis (the outermost layer of your skin) appears smoother.
The Science of Pure Beauty
The third and final part of the PRP Injections with Dermal fillers procedure implements the science and mathematics of pure beauty. As far back as Leonardo da Vinci up until the present day, physicians, scientists, and artists have worked to define what shapes, contours, and proportions make a face more beautiful.
The challenge becomes how to take a face and bring out that which is beautiful, without creating a shape that appears unnatural. In the art and science of pure beauty, millimeters are miles. Therefore, the physician employs the ideas of artists and scientists who have deeply studied beauty when considering where and how much HA filler and growth factor to apply. Although this third component is the most difficult, it takes a skilled provider to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results.
Real revision results speak louder than credentials alone. Dr. Stepanyan’s before-and-after gallery shows paired photos of revision, septoplasty, and related nose surgery cases, so you can see how altered, asymmetrical, or over-resected noses were rebuilt into balanced, natural-looking results. Many of these patients arrived after a disappointing first surgery, which makes the change especially meaningful.
Tracy M.’s case is a good example of a complex starting point. She described her nose as having “a high bridge, a bulbous and droopy tip,” slanted to one side, and “not an easy nose to work with,” adding that “I needed someone trustworthy with experience. I put my trust in Dr. Stepanyan and don’t regret it. He did such a great job that my brother decided to do his rhinoplasty with him as well.” Please see Liz’s revision rhinoplasty video above to see the possible journey from consultation through recovery.
